We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Jeff (The Grocer) and
I had a truly lovely day. The market was open for a few hours in the morning to
allow folks to pick up forgotten and last minute items. By 1pm, the lights were
off and we enjoyed the rest of the day eating way too much and relaxing with our family.
A lifelong grocer, Jeff has always said that holidays are his favorite days to
work. Married nearly 30 years and knowing him as well as I do, I know exactly what
he means when he says that. But, sometimes others misunderstand.
The thing is, Confucius had it right. The
market isn’t ‘work’ to Jeff (sure, sometimes it is). But, most of the time, it
is merely what he loves.
He truly enjoys working holidays because folks are
overwhelmingly in such great moods. Oftentimes, Thanksgiving is the first visit
home for new college freshmen that he has gotten to know as they've grown up through the years. He gets
to see customers’ relatives coming to visit, many of whom he may not see again until
next year.
And, perhaps what means the most to him of all is that sometimes folks choose to include a stop at our market as part of their family’s annual
traditions. It is a unique honor to be a part of someone’s life in that way.
Holidays are a time to spend with family and friends. Thank
you for being a part of ours.
Have a great weekend.
