Sure signs of spring...

While the past few days have been inCREDibly blustery and cold in Palouse, there's no denying that change is on the way. I suspect most folks have a mental list of their own 'signs of spring'. Here's mine:

  • The lovely little feathered friend (pictured above) that I spotted hopping around behind the market early Wednesday evening. Its bright red chest shone like a spotlight against the drab winter backdrop.
  • Attending the spring buying show (coming up in early March), where The Grocer and I pre-order not spring but fall, Halloween, and--yes--Christmas items. Confusing? Incredibly. But, turkey pre-orders for Thanksgiving went in weeks ago. Such is the grocery life.
  • Valentine's candy out. Easter candy IN.
  • A little more daylight every day. Did you know Daylight Saving Time begins March 11 this year? That's only a few weeks away!
  • Though it should be a sign of summer, since the big box stores move the swimsuits out to replace the winter coats, I can't help but associate their arrival with spring. Am I the only one who can't imagine trying on a swimsuit in the dead of winter? Yeek.
  • The hankering to grow something. In my case, this should be avoided at all costs, as I have the ability to kill even a plastic potted plant. Not even kidding.

Here's to Spring Fever!

Sometimes, once is not enough...

When I went to Washington DC in the fall, I got a little carried away taking pictures of the Washington Monument. It just looked so different from every vantage, taking its photo became--shall we say--a little addicting.

See what I mean:

Happy Presidents' Day!

Saddle's the weekend!

Our little town is brimming with pretty. From the architecture of the old brick buildings - to the city park where the towering trees dance round the perimeter - to unexpected surprises like this mural.

I walk past it several times a week. Isn't it the coolest.

Happy Weekend!

Quick Takes: A little 'love' in Palouse...

Just walk down Main Street in Palouse and you can't help but feel the love :) See what I mean:

There's love round the corner from The Green Frog Cafe.

There's love in the window at Linda's Whimseys.

There's love outside the front door.

There's love at the NEW Grammy G's Quilt Shop.

And, the love at the market? Well, it's doused in chocolate :)

Let the countdown to Cupid's arrival begin!

Check out the market's New Items on the blog for loads of fun Valentine's goodies and be sure and watch for the arrival of our Valentine's flowers (hint: our ETA is Saturday, Feb. 11)!

Six more weeks of winter?

So according to Punxsutawney Phil's February 2nd prediction, six more weeks of winter are on the way. I don't know what things look like where you live, but here on The Palouse if this is what six more weeks of winter looks like, I say bring it on!

As these pics from Saturday show, it was a downright beautiful day marked by sunshine and blue skies.

I don't know what's going on here this year with all of this mild weather, but I, for one, am not complaining.

Here's to Punxsutawney Phil!

Game ON!

Super Bowl sale prices in effect SATURDAY & SUNDAY

It's GAME time!

And, while we're admittedly not the biggest football fans at the McLeod household, we do have a pretty nifty Super Bowl story, if I do say so myself.

If you didn't catch it last year on the blog, you can read it HERE!

Have a great weekend! Hope your team wins!
