Upset the apple cart - you'll be glad you did...

Our bin of Honeycrisp apples just arrived! Don't miss the chance to try these gems while they're on sale. Great for snacking, baking, or perhaps a little dipping (see photo above ;)

As the American screenwriter Frank Howard Clark once said, "Why not upset the apple cart? If you don't, the apples will rot anyway." So, come on by and upset our apple cart (ahem, bin), today!

Happy Weekend!

A hint of autumn on Kamiak Butte...

For the first time in a long time, I got out this morning and took a hike with a dear friend on Kamiak Butte. A hint of autumn is just beginning to show itself and since I hadn't had my camera out in a bit, I went a little overboard with the photos.

Autumn on Kamiak is all about warm color and texture slowly yielding to a coming chill. Come along on our hike.

I love the changing leaves...

Texture that beckons your touch...

The quiet of the trail...

Beauty close up...

And, beauty in the distance...

Colors so vibrant you can almost hear them...

And, quiet so silent it's felt...

This view greets you out your passenger's-side window en route to Kamiak and out your driver's-side window when you leave. Now, that's what I call nature's hospitality.

Hope you find a moment this fall to 'take a hike', too :)

Ten years later...

There are rare moments in our collective history wherein all Americans share together the triumph or tragedy of the moment. September 11, 2001, we shared collective tragedy.

Ten years later, the images still sting. Grief still haunts the soul. And the ache to turn back the hands of time--to the days before life as we knew it changed irreparably--linger.

But, even in the most horrific of tragedy, evil is NOT triumphant. Rising above the stories of inconceivable pain and loss are the stories of unimaginable courage, strength, and grace:

Witnessed in the first responders and firefighters who ran toward the crumbling towers as throngs of terrified people fled...confirmed by the heroic souls on United Airlines Flight 93, who willingly and courageously laid down their lives for the lives of their brothers...and affirmed still today by the countless everyday Americans who--in quiet ways behind the scenes--continue to give of themselves to their fellow Americans who are suffering...

Ten years ago today amidst unthinkable pain, we witnessed firsthand the indomitable American spirit. Ten years later, that spirit lives on.

Shifting gears...

The passing of Labor Day, for many, marks the unofficial end of summer and a time of shifting gears. We look back on the season past and forward to what lies ahead.

So, whether you're heading back to school, back to work, back to schedules, or back to the grind...don't forget to take a few precious moments to soak in the delightful-ness that autumn brings.

Here's what I'm looking forward to this fall: pumpkins pumpkins pumpkins (every type, every size, every shape, every color)...a rainbow of mums, cool nights, scarves, changing leaves (particularly at UI's Arboretum in Moscow), shorter days (after the long days of summer, I actually look forward to them), pots of soup and warm bread, and the return of the green-queen-of-coffee's Egg Nog, decadent, and thankfully not available all year long ;)

P.S. The next two Saturdays in Palouse are big! Saturday, Sept. 10th, the Bank Left Gallery & Bistro hosts an art exhibit opening (free to the public) and dinner (by reservation only) for national artist Carrie Vielle. The following Saturday, Sept. 17th, is Palouse Days! - the culmination of summer and ALL things Palouse! For more info, see Palouse Events above.

Have a great week!
